The Love Affair Begins

After picking up the car on a Friday afternoon, I wanted to drive forever, I was invincible and had the coolest car in the world. All of a sudden all the other guys wanted a ride in my car. Too bad for them, it was me and my girlfriend cruising all over town in this cool little car. There are still turns in my hometown I can remember taking in the X1/9 and she was just glued to the ground, on rails as they say. A few friends with Camaro’s and such could out run me, but no one, and I mean no one, could catch me in the turns. It was so much fun to drive. Sadly I only have one picture of the car and I’ll explain later what you can’t see in this picture.

But for now I was King of the Road and that was all that mattered. I can’t remember if the car had a cassette or just a radio, but that didn’t matter, that little engine was all the music I needed. The car was owned by a gal in her 40s, ancient to me at the time, and never winter driven so it was a great car. Not a lot of miles, no rust and everything was working well. A huge wing on the back as you can see and I think it had a power antenna. After a week or so and lots of miles, I noticed the brakes were grabbing, so I went to the parts shop in town (Colonial Garage) and ordered new calipers and pads for the front. That would solve it and all would be good. Sadly it was not to be…
